Privacy Policy

Effective date: 29 September 2026

Wine Passport ("the app") is developed by Janro Gerhard Botha ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app does and does not collect.

Summary

As at the effective date above, Wine Passport does not have user accounts and does not collect personal information. Your passport, notes, wishlist and trips are kept only on your device. From version 1.9.0, if the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a technical crash report so the problem can be fixed; that report contains nothing about you or where you have been (see Crash Reports below). The optional, one-time Wine Passport Pro purchase is processed entirely by the App Store or Google Play (see In-App Purchases below).

This describes the app as it works today rather than a promise about every future version. If we later add features such as optional accounts, cloud backup, or analytics, we will update this policy and the effective date before those features ship, and anything that collects personal information will be optional and clearly explained at the point you choose it.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, and have no access to:

Information Stored On Your Device

The app stores your passport locally on your device, using standard on-device storage. That means which wineries you've marked as "visited", any private rating or note you add to a visit, any wineries you save to your wishlist, any trips you plan, and whether you have asked for visit reminders. This information:

Crash Reports

From version 1.9.0, Wine Passport uses Sentry (sentry.io), a crash reporting service, to find out when the app crashes or hits an error. When that happens, the app sends Sentry a report containing:

Crash reports do not include your name, email address, location, or anything you have stored in your passport. They are used only to find and fix problems in the app, are not used for advertising or tracking, and are not sold or shared with anyone else. Sentry stores them in the European Union under its own privacy policy. Nothing is sent unless something goes wrong.

Third-Party Services

Maps. The app displays an interactive map. On Android, this uses the Google Maps SDK, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. On iOS, the app uses Apple's native Maps, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Navigation. When you tap "Navigate" on a winery, the app hands off to your device's installed maps app using the winery's coordinates. That app opens outside of Wine Passport and is governed by its own privacy policy — we have no visibility into or control over what it does with that information.

In-app purchases. Wine Passport offers one optional, one-time purchase — "Wine Passport Pro" — which unlocks trip planning, map filters, and an unlimited wishlist. Purchases are processed entirely by the App Store or Google Play, under Apple's or Google's privacy policy. Wine Passport never sees, collects, or stores your payment details — the store only tells the app whether the purchase was completed, which is what unlocks the feature on your device.

Children's Privacy

Wine Passport is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children, consistent with the fact that the app does not collect personal information from any user. Crash reports, described above, contain no personal information.

Changes to This Policy

Wine Passport is actively developed, and what it collects may change as features are added. If that happens we will update this page and the effective date above, and we will not begin collecting anything described here as not collected until we have done so.
